Introduction:  “Jane Eyre” is a fascinating and intriguing novel by Charlotte Bronte. It is a story of a little orphan girl Jane Eyre who after the death of her parents is forced to live with her wicked aunt Mrs. Reed. Jane’s life with her aunt is a nightmare for the girl and happily Mrs. Reed eventually agrees to give Jane away to the Lowood School. Nevertheless, Jane’s life at school does not become better, since the headmaster makes the girls live in poverty, claiming that it is a part of his pedagogical strategy.

While studying at Lowood Jane meets a friend named Helen Burns who teaches Jane to be strong and to endure constant humiliation at school with dignity. A typhus epidemic takes away the lives of many people in Lowood School including Helen Burns. After the epidemic the headmaster changes and the living conditions change for better too. Jane not only successfully finishes school but even stays for two more years to teach there. As Jane accepts a position of a governess at the Thornfield manor she starts teaching a girl named Adele who is being taken care of by the owner of the manor – Mr. Rochester. Though Mr. Rochester is sullen and gloomy, Jane secretly falls in love with him. Mr. Rochester acts strange and one day he brings home a woman who everybody believes he will marry. Nevertheless, he instead proposes to Jane and she agrees, but the wedding is canceled as it is revealed that Mr. Rochester is already married to a mad woman who constantly causes him trouble. Jane leaves and lives on the street then teaches again and then gets a fortune from her dead uncle. One night Jane realizes that she cannot live without Mr. Rochester. She comes back and finds out that he turned blind after a fire in which his mad wife died. Jane dedicates herself to Mr. Rochester and he partial recovers his eyesight to see their first son.

Conclusion: Charlotte Bronte has created a real masterpiece which is considered to be one of the greatest pieces of classic literature. Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre” is a very complex novel with a plot interesting enough to keep the reader intrigued till the end of the novel.
